360-degree assessment in Brusnika.LMS is a competency assessment tool that collects feedback from several perspectives: the employee’s manager, peers, direct reports, and the employee themselves.

The results are consolidated into tables, a competency chart, and a matrix comparing the employee’s actual level with the target level. The assessment can also provide analytical insights and serve as a basis for assigning an Individual Development Plan (IDP).

The 360-degree assessment module requires the Competencies module. HR specialists or moderator-editors manage assessments, while participants complete assessment forms. Depending on the configuration, employees can nominate their own assessors, and designated approvers can review and approve the proposed lists.

How does the 360-degree assessment work?

An assessment is created using a dedicated wizard with the following sections:

  • Basic Information;
  • Mode and Settings;
  • Open Questions;
  • Participants;
  • Competencies and Scale.

The administrator first defines the assessment name, description, and period. The assessment setup then determines who is being assessed, who will provide feedback, which competencies are evaluated, and which scale is used.

Before publication, Brusnika.LMS checks whether the assessment is ready. The system verifies, among other things, that assessed employees have assessors, competencies have been configured, and the selected scale contains levels.

Assessments can be kept as drafts, activated, or sent for approval. Existing assessments can also be cloned or deleted.

Assigning tasks to assessors

The assessment can be configured so that assessors receive:

  • individual tasks;
  • one shared task;
  • no task.

When the assessment is used with Bitrix24, the corresponding workflow can use a Bitrix24 task.

Participants and assessor categories

The assessment can include individual employees, a department, or a group.

For each assessed employee, assessors can be assigned by relationship type:

  • manager;
  • peers;
  • direct reports;
  • self-assessment.

Self-assessment can also be activated for all participants.

Another option is “Employee selects assessors”. In this mode, the employee chooses assessors by relationship type. The proposed list can then be sent for approval before the assessment proceeds.

Anonymous and non-anonymous assessment

Brusnika.LMS supports both anonymous and non-anonymous 360-degree assessments.

With anonymous assessment, the employee sees only average results for assessor categories. With non-anonymous assessment, the summary table can show the individual ratings submitted by each assessor by name.

Open-ended responses are handled separately: the author of an open-ended response is not revealed to anyone.

Open-ended questions

Open-ended questions can be added to the end of the assessment form.

The default question concerns strengths and development areas, but the assessment creator can configure the questions and decide whether they are required.

Open-ended responses are available in the assessment results, while the author of each response remains hidden.

Competencies and scales

360-degree assessment uses the Competencies module as its foundation.

Competencies can be selected:

  • from the competency list;
  • from competency blocks;
  • from competency profiles.

These sources can be combined.

The assessment can use one common competency set and scale for all employees, or an individual set of competencies and scale can be configured for each assessed employee.

Competencies are fixed in the assessment when it is launched. Changes made later to the competency directory do not affect an assessment that has already started.

Approval workflow

Assessments that use approval have a dedicated Approval tab.

It shows situations requiring attention, including:

  • no approvers assigned;
  • a list awaiting approval;
  • assessors not yet assigned.

The interface provides actions for sending notifications and reminders.

Approval is particularly relevant when employees nominate their own assessors and the proposed list must be reviewed before the assessment starts.

Employee account

The employee’s 360 Assessment section contains several workflows.

“I am an assessor”

Employees can see the people they need to assess.

The assessment follows the structure:

competencies → indicators → scale.

Answers are saved automatically. The assessor can also select “Unable to answer” when appropriate.

The assessment is submitted using “Complete assessment”.

“My assessment results”

If results have been published to the employee’s personal account, the employee can view the results of their own assessment.

Access to these results depends on the assessment’s publication settings.

“Assign assessors”

When self-nomination is enabled, employees can select assessors by relationship type.

The configured minimum number of assessors is taken into account. The proposed list is then submitted for approval, after which the employee confirms their consent.

Assessors receive a notification with a link to the assessment. In a Bitrix24 workflow, a Bitrix24 task can also be used.

360-degree assessment results

The Results tab provides an overview of assessed employees and collection progress.

For each employee, the system can show:

  • how many assessors are expected;
  • how many have already submitted their assessment;
  • who has not yet completed the assessment.

Competency chart

Assessment results are displayed in a competency chart, making it possible to review the employee’s position across the assessed competencies.

Summary table

The competency and indicator table can include:

  • self-assessment;
  • manager assessment;
  • peer assessment;
  • direct-report assessment;
  • average score;
  • average excluding self-assessment;
  • average including self-assessment.

The system separately shows how many respondents selected “Unable to answer”. These responses are not included in the average.

Comparison with target levels

When a target level is defined for a competency, the result can be compared with that target.

The system displays the deviation and one of three statuses:

  • above target;
  • at target;
  • below target.

This comparison can be used, among other scenarios, when working with a talent pool or succession pipeline.

Comments and open-ended answers

Results include expert comments and responses to open-ended questions.

With non-anonymous assessment, raw ratings from individual assessors are also available.

Nika.AI analytics

360-degree assessment results can be analyzed using Nika.AI.

AI analytics provides an additional way to interpret collected assessment data alongside the quantitative assessment results.

Personal reports

Personal reports can be generated for selected employees.

They include:

  • a radar chart when at least three competencies are available;
  • a summary matrix;
  • the position of competencies relative to target levels;
  • the most developed competencies;
  • the least developed competencies;
  • strengths;
  • development areas.

The generated conclusions are based on the average excluding self-assessment.

Until all expected assessors have submitted their responses, the report is marked as preliminary. Final conclusions are generated after the collection is complete.

360-degree assessment overview

The 360 Assessment Overview report provides an organization-level view for a selected period.

It can include:

  • number of assessments;
  • number of participants;
  • number of assessors;
  • completion progress;
  • average competency scores;
  • number of assessed employees who have an IDP.

Export

Assessment results can be exported to:

  • PDF;
  • Excel.

Assigning an IDP from assessment results

An IDP can be assigned directly from 360-degree assessment results.

This allows assessment findings to be used as an input for employee development. Identified development areas can become a basis for the employee’s subsequent development plan.

The actual content of the IDP is managed through the IDP module.

API

Brusnika.LMS provides an API for working with 360-degree assessment data.

The API can provide:

  • reports on assessed employees;
  • self-assessment results;
  • ratings from other participants;
  • gaps between assessment results;
  • competency-level data;
  • status-change notifications.

This makes it possible to use assessment data in integration workflows supported by the API.

Connections with other Brusnika.LMS capabilities

360-degree assessment is closely connected to the Competencies module because competency profiles, competencies, indicators, and scales form the foundation of the assessment.

Assessment results can also be used together with:

  • IDPs — to assign individual development plans;
  • career tracks — career levels can use “360 Assessment” as a source;
  • gamification — assessors can receive points for participation;
  • notifications — to communicate with assessment participants;
  • Bitrix24 — for assessor task workflows where supported by the integration;
  • API — to retrieve assessment data and status-change notifications.

Notification settings

Settings specific to an individual assessment are configured in the assessment wizard.

The text of notifications and assessment tasks is configured separately under Notification Settings.

Typical use cases

Annual assessment of managers

An HR specialist can create a 360-degree assessment and select competencies from a Manager competency profile.

For each assessed manager, the organization can assign:

  • their manager;
  • three peers;
  • direct reports;
  • the employee themselves for self-assessment.

The organization can enable anonymity and publication of results in the employee account before publishing the assessment.

Assessors receive notifications and complete the forms. Once responses are collected, HR can review the results, use Nika.AI analytics where appropriate, and assign an IDP.

Self-nominated assessment

HR enables “Employee selects assessors”.

Employees then create their own assessor lists. The lists are submitted for approval and, once approved, the employees confirm their consent before the assessment proceeds.

Assessment for a talent pool

Competency profiles and target levels can be used when assessing employees in a talent or succession pool.

The results show the employee’s position relative to the target:

  • above target;
  • at target;
  • below target.

This can provide one source of information for development and career-level decisions.

Limitations and important rules

Assessment completion

An assessed employee receives the Completed status only after all expected responses have been collected.

Changing answers

If “Allow changing answers before assessment completion” is disabled, an assessor cannot change their answers after completing the assessment.

Competency snapshot

Competencies are fixed in the assessment when it is launched. Later changes to the competency directory do not affect an assessment that has already started.

Deleting an assessment

When an assessment is deleted, the system attempts to remove the related assessor tasks in Bitrix24. If a task cannot be removed, the assessment is not deleted.

Preliminary reports

Personal report conclusions are generated after all expected assessors have responded. Until then, the report is marked as preliminary.
