What is Longread Builder?
Longread Builder is a tool for creating structured digital learning materials that combine text, visual content, interactive components, and knowledge checks.
Instead of building a page from scratch or writing code, authors assemble content using ready-made blocks and templates. They can create a short learning module, employee guide, onboarding resource, business case study, or reference guide.
The tool is designed for learning and development (L&D) professionals, instructional designers, HR teams, corporate universities, subject-matter experts, and e-learning content creators.
Longread Builder as part of Brusnika Authoring Tools
Brusnika Authoring Tools is the Brusnika product line focused on digital learning content creation and preparation.
Longread Builder is one of its authoring tools. Its purpose is to make interactive content creation accessible to learning professionals without requiring programming skills or complex course-development software.
The idea behind Brusnika Authoring Tools is to make common content-production tasks straightforward: prepare the material, add interaction, check knowledge, configure the presentation, and publish the result for learning.
Longread Builder focuses specifically on the interactive longread β from source content to a finished learning resource that can be used independently or delivered through an LMS.
What can you create?
An interactive longread is more than a long page of text. In digital learning, it is a structured resource that guides learners through a topic, presents examples, encourages interaction, and checks understanding.
Longread Builder provides 19 content block types in five groups.
Text
- Paragraph
- Heading
- Quote
- List
- Callout
- Table
Media
- Cover
- Image
- Grid
- Video
Structure
- Chapter
- Separator
- Continue
Interactive elements
- Timeline
- Tabs
- Accordion
- Flashcards
- Hotspots
Quizzes
The Quiz block supports four question types represented in the templates:
- Single choice
- Multiple choice
- Sequence
- Matching
Quiz settings include a passing threshold, answer-correctness feedback, and retry options. The standard quiz threshold in the supplied templates is 70%, although individual content configurations may differ.
13 ready-made templates
Longread Builder includes 13 ready-made templates:
| Template | Typical use |
|---|---|
| Project Management | Introduction to project management |
| Effective Feedback | Teaching constructive feedback |
| Remote Work | Remote-working practices and guidelines |
| Software Quick Start | Getting started with a new service |
| How AI Works | Explaining artificial intelligence |
| Workflow Case Study | Analysing a process improvement |
| Difficult Customer | Learning about difficult customer interactions |
| Workplace Safety FAQ | Workplace safety questions and answers |
| Project Launch Checklist | Preparing to launch a project |
| Effective Communication | Short business communication training |
| Team Onboarding | Introducing a new employee to the team |
| Business Terms | A business terminology reference |
| Time Management | Managing time and work priorities |
The templates vary in structure, block combinations, and visual presentation.
For example, Effective Feedback uses the SBI model, alternative wording examples, a timeline, interactive hotspots, and practice questions. Remote Work combines checklists, a timeline, flashcards, tabs, and communication-channel tables. Project Management includes a project lifecycle timeline, hotspots, and a responsibility matrix.
Some templates are designed for short microlearning, while others provide more detailed explanations or reference material.
An important note about Difficult Customer
The Difficult Customer template is presented as a learning scenario, but it is not a fully branching scenario in which each learner choice automatically changes the subsequent learning path.
The content remains linear, with alternative options presented within the overall sequence. It is therefore useful for discussing situations and alternative responses, but it does not replace a full branching-scenario authoring system.
How to create an interactive longread
Step 1: Define the learning objective
Start by identifying what learners should understand or be able to do after completing the material.
A clear objective helps determine the right structure and prevents the longread from becoming a collection of unrelated information.
Step 2: Choose a template or build your own structure
Use one of the ready-made templates if it fits your objective, or assemble the material from individual blocks.
A template is a starting framework rather than a complete instructional methodology. Adapt the content, examples, wording, and quizzes to your organization's actual needs.
Step 3: Add and organize the content
Combine text, headings, tables, images, videos, tabs, flashcards, and other available blocks. Divide the material into logical chapters and arrange the information in a clear sequence.
DOCX and HTML content can also be imported.
Step 4: Add interaction and knowledge checks
Choose interactive elements according to the learning objective.
For example:
- timelines can explain processes;
- flashcards can reinforce terminology;
- tabs can compare alternatives;
- accordions can reveal additional information;
- hotspots can explain parts of an image;
- quizzes can check understanding.
Interaction should support learning rather than simply add visual complexity.
Step 5: Configure the learning experience
Longread Builder provides settings for visual presentation, progress display, and learning-completion parameters.
Quiz settings include a result threshold, correctness feedback, and retry options. A separate minimum-viewing percentage can also be configured.
Step 6: Review and publish
Review the complete longread before publishing. Check text, images, links, interactive elements, chapter order, and quiz questions.
You can then:
- transfer the content directly to Brusnika.LMS;
- export it as SCORM 1.2 or SCORM 2004;
- export it as HTML for standalone use.
How to use Longread Builder with Brusnika.LMS
Longread Builder supports two ways to transfer created content to Brusnika.LMS.
Option 1: Direct transfer
Create the longread in Longread Builder and transfer it directly to Brusnika.LMS.
This avoids the need to download and manually upload a SCORM package as a separate step.
Once transferred, the material can be included in a learning course and assigned to employees.
Option 2: Export and upload SCORM
The standard SCORM workflow is:
- Create and review the longread.
- Export it as SCORM 1.2 or SCORM 2004.
- Upload the SCORM package to Brusnika.LMS.
- Add the material to a learning course.
- Assign the training to employees.
This option is particularly useful when the same learning material needs to be used in different LMS platforms that support SCORM.
Longread Builder can therefore work both as a standalone authoring tool and as a content-creation tool for corporate learning in Brusnika.LMS.
SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, or HTML?
Longread Builder supports three export formats: SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, and HTML.
| Format | When to use it |
|---|---|
| SCORM 1.2 | When the target LMS supports SCORM 1.2 |
| SCORM 2004 | When the target LMS supports SCORM 2004 and this standard is required |
| HTML | When you need a standalone HTML learning resource |
SCORM is a standard for packaging e-learning content and exchanging data between learning content and an LMS.
SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004 differ in their capabilities and communication mechanisms. The appropriate format should therefore be selected according to the requirements of the target LMS.
For Brusnika.LMS, both direct transfer and SCORM upload are available.
18 interface languages
Longread Builder's interface is available in 18 languages:
- English
- Russian
- Ukrainian
- French
- Italian
- German
- Turkish
- Polish
- Portuguese
- Spanish
- Vietnamese
- Chinese
- Japanese
- Kazakh
- Arabic
- Indonesian
- Malay
- Thai
The interface language and the language of the learning content are separate. A localized interface allows authors to work with the tool in their preferred language, but it does not automatically translate the content, images, or quiz questions they create.
Visual design and presentation
Longread Builder provides visual configuration options including:
- themes;
- font combinations;
- table-of-contents positioning;
- block density;
- accent colors.
This makes it possible to adapt the same authoring approach to different learning formats, from compact reference materials to visually rich onboarding content.
What to consider
Longread Builder is designed for creating structured interactive materials from ready-made blocks.
When planning a project, keep in mind:
- full branching-scenario logic is not part of the current tool;
- DOCX and HTML import are available, while PowerPoint and PDF import are part of future development;
- export formats include SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, and HTML;
- xAPI and cmi5 are not among the current export formats;
- SCORM package compatibility should be checked in the target LMS;
- collaborative multi-author editing, author-role management, and a public template gallery are not part of the current feature set.
If a project requires complex adaptive scenarios, specialized analytics, or custom learning logic, choose a tool that provides those capabilities.
